Told from a child’s-eye perspective, this follows the perilous journey from Vietnam, subtly referenced by colour palettes and increased military presence, to a journey to find safety.  Illustrations add weight, power and emotional depth to the story and provide cultural references to signpost the family’s origins alongside their journey.  Controlled artistic media help provide an idea of identity being stripped away and gradually built back in this affecting tale.

Shadowers' reviews and artwork

I think this is a really good book because it tells you basically a life story of the author and makes you feel empathetic and I would definitely recommend this book to others who like a thriller

I thought that it was an inspiring book and it showed a lot emotion. The pictures are grey at the start - showing the sadness - but in the end when they were safe at home and happy , it showed the joyful, jubilant ending.

i like that it is A TRUE STORY but it was boring

The pictures are 4 in 1 and some images are like windows for her memories.

This book was really good. The illustrations had different colours for different moods. I really enjoyed it and it got across the feeling really well. I would rate it 9/10

The book is called The Endless Sea. i thought it was very realistic, but maybe lacking a little bit of detail. The pictures were pleasant, but the colours were a bit drab.

I think it is amazing! Me and my friend read and we just could not stop. I found it very very interesting and I also think it would be good for little ones to read since it is quite short. I loved the bit when they got rescued!!! But I think a parent might need to read it to the child.

It is a very good book. Me and my friend read it together. My favourite part was when they got rescued by the big boat. The book is a bit sad, but it is still good for little ones, though I may suggest that a parent will read it to the child.

The book for me showed that the girl in it gets left out and they use lots of colour but when she moves away it is lots of dark colours and makes it very sad and the face expressions are very telling of the emotions that they have. They use lots of different art styles and I really like the different layouts of the book. I like how sometimes there is not as much details in the image, so it is much easier to understand what is happening around the words. I rate this 4/5 because I enjoyed it and would read it again (even though I don't read much, I did like this one).
