The winners of the prestigious CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Medals, the UK’s oldest book awards for children and young people, have today (Tuesday 18th June 2019) been revealed at a ceremony at The British Library, hosted by broadcaster and writer Konnie Huq.
Three verse novels make the Carnegie Medal shortlist for the first time, as books celebrating freedom of expression loom large across both of the 8-strong 2019 shortlists.
The 2019 longlisted books reflect contemporary themes, helping children navigate important topics including grief, mental health, human rights and individuality with verse novels and poetry featuring strongly.
The 2019 Nominations have been published for the country’s oldest children’s book awards, recognising outstanding writing and illustration in books for children and young people.
The dates for the 2019 CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Medals are revealed today, Monday 21st January 2019, alongside two new major introductions to the 2019 cycle.
