The Wilderness
I like the style of the book but it is not my favourite. I love the way they have done the names of months for names and they each have different personalities. They all love adventures except for October.

This book is adorable the bear is so cute. I love how the little girl helps him and how no one else knows he’s there. It's a really nice book.

Maddie

To the Other Side
I quite like this book. It got a bit confusing at first at what was actually going on but I got it in the end. I like the illustrations and they are very unique, and the colours really stand out on the people and masks.

Evelyn

Lost
It’s very heart warming. It's a good book for younger children. It really looks like they are in the real world. You feel happy for the bear when he gets home. I felt sad that he had to leave the little girl but when she gave him her teddy it made you feel very touched and happy

Pippa

The Wilderness
I don't really like The Wilderness that much. This is because the illustrations just don't make me feel intrigued to read it. I like the words and fonts though and the drawing style was quite nice but not really for my age group.

Evelyn

The Tree and the River
This is such a beautiful book, even though it has no words. This book has inspired me to have hope in everything you do or say even the smallest details can mean a lot. I love this book so badly I want to order it!

Alivia

The Search for the Giant Arctic Jellyfish
Very detailed pictures. It feels like you are part of the adventure. I like how you laid out the equipment on the first page. I cant get my head round how she came up with this story. I like how even if you cant read it you can understand it. It is a book that I would like to buy as a person to inspire me .

Fleur

April's Garden
This book is sad at the beginning but then April gets happier because she has a new home and her flowers have grown!

The Tree and the River
Can I just say how amazing this book is! First of all it is so heart warming, I love how it sends the reader an important message. I love how you can tell what the story is about without words. It made me feel happy, sad and mad. I just loved it.

Maddie

The Search for the Giant Arctic Jellyfish
Very detailed pictures. It's intriguing. It feels like you're with them on the adventure. It's like a game of hide and seek under the sea .I like the map on the very first page.

Pippa

I really liked the book because it has a great meaning and everything is so cute. I would read it many times although it is quite emotional the pictures match the story so well and I just really like it overall!!! 9.5/10

I think this book has too much detail, even though the author spent time on this. I'm sorry but I dislike this book.

First of all when I opened the book I saw that the colours blend into each other, but it is very detailed which is good.

Safiyyah's War
After discovering the invasion of Germany in France it gave a whole new levels of suspense and interest within Safiyyah's personal story about her development of a brave, caring character. Overall, this book shows how girls can take a passion in caring and confidence when something tragic and overwhelming is happening, whilst still staying consistent with her close friendships which are clearly imporant to her. For example it shows in Saffiyyahs War that women are capable of stepping up and caring for the community around them. My original predictions roughly alligned with what we read in the extract as it made it obvious near the beginning. As much as I knew what was happening nothing took away from the suspense of her best friend (Isabelle) left town and as she was caught in a bombing whilst fuffiling a promise for Monsieur Cassin. During Safiyyahs War other characters are invloved that grow her confidence in through support and working as a community. Such as Yemma, which is a close family member and has a special place in Safiyyahs heart and childhood. During this her Dad also comes through as a kind and caring part in Safiyyah's life. Monsieur Cassin was a family friend that cared for Safiyyahs interest in maps and travelling, giving Safiyyah somebody to confide in. Throughout the novel Safiyyah's character grows in passion and confidence, but still left on edge about her dad, causing alot of anxiety which she shows throughout the book. We can also see how she struggles on trust as she grows after the bombing, always cautious, as if shes stepping on eggshells throughout Paris. In my opinion, the book shows an element of hisotry from WW2 and the struggles, which I empathis for. I will definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys a bit of an adventure and empathetic novel!

Choose Love
i think this book is very heart-warming and also tension rising and it has a lot of different emotions throughout the book and poems.

Steady for This
The book is not what I expected, its confusing and uninteresting, and not really something a teenage girl would enjoy reading. However, I feel if you enjoy books with rap and competition then you will thoroughly enjoy it. It does have some humour and some strange but rather amusing moments that some people may find funny. Going back to the point about me not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. I started reading the book, and thought, okay, this could get more interesting, but no. I was having to skip pages to find interesting parts and wondering when there was going to be an gripping part. Which there wasn't. The main character, Shaun was not what I expected him to be. He is not a good role model for younger children. As he is rude, disrespectful and disinterested in many things. The slang used could be interpreted by younger readers, which may be a positive thing for them, but for parents and guardians, not so much. The raps, for me were not what I assumed it would be. They were cringy and a little odd. They title, 'Steady For This' is captivating as you want to know what the main character and what he does in the novel. Yet this can be deceiving. Overall, the book is not something I would recommend to people. Due to the lack of storyline and interest. Its quite misleading, it sounds interesting, the cover is bright and colourful. Again, that, for me is misleading. I'm am glad I tried reading it as now I know not to pick up a book like this again, as I won't enjoy it as much as a book or genre that I like. Finding a book you love is important, so always look for your interests! Keep reading!

Choose Love
I like this book as it shows the real life struggles about being a refugee. It really makes you empathize with the struggles that people go through. In addition this book makes you feel grateful and inspires you to help others.

Amelia

Crossing the Line
I think this book is very eye-opening about what goes on in the real world. It tells us about how people who are less advantaged go through. The layout of the book is also very interesting and unique. The way the worlds are sculptured also tells the story. The words are used as an illustration.

Saba

Crossing the Line
I really enjoyed the book because of how the structure is. It is easy to read and the sentences are short. The grief, getting in with the wrong crowd, drugs lies, and consequences are showed in the book and it makes me feel bad.

Lydia

Choose Love
I just read abit of this book and it seems enjoyable and I think I would enjoy reading it if I would have choose it.Further more about this book, the texts and the poems can help us picturing the story and the scene in our head that will really help us understand and get the actual feeling of the book. The artworks in this book and the painting on the opposite page of the poems gives us a sense and e great picture.

Shaden

Choose Love
I personally like this book as it gives refugees a voice, a voice that is shown through poems and artwork. I like this poetry as it gives us idea about what they have gone through and how they have overcome this. Especially in the poem 'Five minutes' as it gives us an idea on how they have to make life threatening decisions in barely no time at all. For example, what would you take? Food? Water? Clothes? You want to take everything but you can't. I think this is shown as well by the picture that went with it as it shows a person that is staying still and just looking at the destruction caused. Also the way it is drawn, with scribbles shows the amount of distress and pain that is happening at that time. Reading the poems in this book make me feel bad about the people that have gone through this and I can't image how much pain they went through that day.

I like the colloquial language because its easy to understand. However, I think the main character is a far too delusional and strange, as he thinks that he is really good at rapping, whereas others would strongly disagree. I also think that it is not the type of book that most teenage girls would enjoy reading, and far from what I expected. this book has a strange love story that I feel uncomfortable reading. Shaun does not think before he acts. also, the story can be tedious at times. However, if you enjoy rapping and tis type of humor you might enjoy it.

Choose Love
I loved the use of poetic techniques it really made the emotive language stand out. The poem brought out a sadness in me the language used would help people understand more and people of all ages would be able to understand to including knowing what the message is about. The book makes you sympathies with the people that have gone through this types of things

Jaz

Choose Love
I really liked the emotive language and poetic techniques used in these poems. I think that the language used would be understood by all ages and the message would be understood by all. The book makes me sympathise with people who have gone through things like this and is able to spread awareness.

I have not manage to finish it yet, but I think it’s quit a good book.the main character is a bit delusional and he is not good at rapping at all but he thinks he is. I thought it will be more enjoyable and interesting but it is alright until now maybe my opinion would change after I finish the book. If you are interested in rapping this book might be helping you and would be more enjoyable for you than me.

The Song Walker
I think that this is one of my favourite books I have read so far. This is because it shows perseverance and resilience. Furthermore this book shows challenges that these girls will overcome whilst being am exciting read. This book also shows massive character development which make you attached to the characters and get carried away with the book. In conclusion this book is a great read and really gives you and impression of the characters and shows the different lifestyles and how you can relate to someone even if you are polar opposites.

Amelia

The Song Walker
I personally think that this is a really good book as it shows 2 friends overcoming a challenge together which overall show teamwork and resilience. I also think that this book helps show people, that whatever their personal past is like, they can change and become a better and more understanding person. This book highlights this by them facing difficulties together and trying to understand each other. Overall, I think this is a really good book that also shows how girls are capable of sustaining and developing themselves even through challenges they face.

Yes, I would definitely share this book, this book makes me feel sad for the bear because he can't find his way back. The colours and pictures are amazing they don't clash at all and the way the illustrator drew them is extremely good, The style is unique. The front cover is is brilliant the pictures make it come alive. Page 7 is the only thing I don't like because the bear's face is a bit weird

Georgina

To the Other Side
I thought the impact was very memorable because it's about refugees who travel the world to find better places to live and I think the author presented it really well. The pictures and colours matched well with the story especially the colours, I thought the colours were really unique because the things that pop out the most were black and the detail actually poped out the most because of the colours and I thought really good and fitted in well with the story.

This book is very memorable. I would definitely share it with people age 6-9 I think they would enjoy it. The colours are lovely but the style is not my favourite. The pictures really match the story. If you removed the words, you would still understand the story line. I think the cover really made the bear stand out. I must say this story really came alive to me. And the pictures definitely flow with the story. I think the words on the cover stands out I really liked the format because each scene had its own picture. I loved this book!!!!

The Tree and the River
This book is verry memorable. The book makes me feel that people should not destroy the planet with buildings and plastic. The way they are dawn are immaculate the shading on the pictures are amazing. It is so unique. The front cover has beautiful sketches and meaning to it. The pictures have a meaning and it dose not need words. The pictures flow through the book. It was so sad that the tree is gets old.

The Midnight Panther
The book is reasonably memorable but I won't remember it forever. I love the way the pictures the look. The format isn't great though it's a bit confusing. I like the use of images.

Evelyn

April's Garden
I liked how as soon as you opened the book it brought you straight into the book and how at the beginning it was dark but in some of the pictures it was too dark. It was a bit hard to see some of the details like the mum in the car. I liked how it went from dark to colourful and I really liked the moral that was to be patient because good things come to those who are patient and I liked like the colouring pencils style effect.

Maddie

To the Other Side
The Impact to me would be 5/5, I would definetely share the book because it really makes you think about what is happening in the story. The Artistic Style to me is 3/5, because not all of the colours have been used and I would prefer a variety, I also think that the black and white really make it stand out. The Use Of Images to me is 5/5, because the pictures are really gentle in the start and end and more lively towards the middle then gentle again at the end. The Format to me is 5/5, because the words are displayed really well and go along side the pictures so you can see really well what picture's what. I absolutely love this book and would recommend it to anyone!

Alice

The Tree and the River
I liked the detail in the pictures. Each picture was double paged and you could see clearly how the tree changed over the years and how it was impacted by the humans decisions. It has no words but I could follow the story by looking at the pictures. This was good because I could make up my own words and spend more time looking at the pictures. It is a memorable because the beautiful drawings explain the powerful message. It seems to have a sad ending but there is hope because an acorn drops to make another tree. This book made me think and I really enjoyed the book.

Ophelia

The Bowerbird
I absolutely loved the pictures, i think i am going to remember this for a long time. I tried reading the book without the words to start off with and I could almost completely understand the story. I liked the moral of the story that was to not give up. The words definitely matched the pictures and Bert was so cute. There was also a lot of detail in all the things he collected.

Maddie

The Bowerbird
The pictures could tell the story alone. The moral of the story was very memorable. It made you really feel bad for the bower bird. It has a very happy ending. The book alone was very memorable. The words matched the pictures very well. The drawings of the things he collected looked very detailed and realistic.

The Search for the Giant Arctic Jellyfish
I think its such an amazing book which has such a beautiful meaning, and proves that you really should never give up, the colours show a gorgeous luminous illustration that really makes you feel awed by the look of it. The size shape drawing and font make it even better, Thank you Chloe Savage for making such an awesome book! 🪼✨

April's Garden
The book's impact is beautiful.5/5. The pictures are nice but for me they seem messy or scruffy because of all the lines on the hair and things.3/5. The use of images is pretty good but it seems very much the same very much the same in my opinion. The format is quite good but I didn't like how sometimes the font and changes.

Elin

The Search for the Giant Arctic Jellyfish
I love this book. The illustrations are really creative and match the story well. The moral of the story is to never give up on your dreams, and I really like that. This is definitely a story to remember.

Evelyn

Choose Love
I like the poem because it creates a very anxious condition and the repetition “five minutes” keep emphasizing that you have only five minutes and what are the decisions you make?

Mandy

Choose Love
I like how the author has written the structure of the poem but I didn't think it's necessarily true. The author uses anaphora to create panic and rush within the poem. It makes me think of war and fire as it said "when the city strikes with fire alarms".

evie

Choose Love
The poem Five Minutes gave a very rushed and panicked atmosphere. The use of second person made me feel like I was experiencing everything and had to choose some impossible choices giving me a feel for what others had to go through. The rhyming couplets keep the tension high throughout the poem. The picture for this poem gave a perfect representation of chaos and rushed.

Farah

Away With Words
I think the story is wonderful. I really like Gala who is the Spanish girl because she has the similar experience to me. And also she has a very good friend, Natalie, who can't speak in public. And they write a poem use different words they are very creative and unique. That is a really good story.

Mandy

Away With Words
I think this book is pretty good. It really gives the impression that Gala has been thrown into her school with only a little knowledge of the English language as lots of words are blanked out. I think if there was more action it would be more compelling to read but apart from that, I have no faults.

Olivia

Away With Words
Away With Words is a very warm-hearted book about friendship and growing up. As the story progress, Gala meets Natalie who has selective mutism, and they became very good friends partly because they have the same experience of not being able to express themselves.

Mido

Choose Love
The poem 'five minutes' creates and idea of what it would feel and be like to experience that situation. the writing gives a sense of urgency and panic, and make you aware of the difficult choices that would have to be made in such a short period of time and how rushed it would be.

Holly

The Song Walker
I really like this book; it has a good representation of different cultures, and the mystery surrounding the main character's amnesia as she tries to remember who she is is very engaging.

Helaina

Choose Love
Five minutes: It creates a sense of urgency and panic by telling the repeating the amount of time you’ve got also asking us what we would choose creates a sense of preparedness.

Valentina

Choose Love
Five Minutes: This poem creates a sense of urgency and panic; by using anaphora to show the panic and hurried mindset the author has written it in. The use of direct adress symbolises the fact that the author is speaking in a rushed tone; also the alliteration of 'what will; puts the reader on a 'ticking clock' that invests us to read on with shivers down our spines. The rhetorical questions also give us a sense that the author is questioning themselves because they're in a hurry

Tia

Safiyyah's War
From where I am now the city is just being abandoned as the war is about to start. And we really get to know saffiyah as her perculiar attention to detail comes in use as she reads how people feel as she is walking to school the following morning. I think that what will happen next is she will get in a mess and become endangered and then she will escape and save the day

Sian

Choose Love
Review on the poem 'Five Minutes' on page 14: I like this poem; I think it has been written well. However, when reading it, I personally didn't feel anything and I couldn't identify the tone unaided. The poem did give an accurate description of the difficult decisions a refugee would have to make.

Helaina

Choose Love
I think this book was ok. The extract I read was good and portrayed the idea of being a refuge but I personally think that one area for improvement is that there could be more tension because I didn't feel it portrayed very much emotion in the words and if there was more hints on the tone it would be easier to fulling understand the words.

Olivia

The Boy Lost in the Maze
personally, I think the book is a little boring at the start but I read a extract later on in the book, to me it sounds like it gets more exciting and relatable. I think this is a very good book to read when you want to relax as its not to tense but also very fascinating .

evie

April's Garden
I thought that the book was a really good book and that if anybody read it I think personally that they would learn a really good lesson that not everything in your life is perfect like the phrase, the ups only come with the down, so I would really recommend this book. Also I thought that it was a lovely book to read and that the drawing really pictured what the little girl was thinking and feeling. All in all, I really enjoyed the book and it was lovely to read.

Rosalie

The Midnight Panther
You have used amazing colour, The heading sounds mysterious, THE MIDNIGHT PANTHER, you have used the space well. It is so sad that they do not like him. I have a cat called Tilly and she is feisty and she reminds me of a little Panther. I LOVE THE BOOK IT'S AMAZING

Amelia

The Tree and the River
I would love to share this book with anyone because it is a very touching story. The book makes me feel very wholesome because it is about a tree and a river ageing through time until the tree dies, and a new one grows. I really like the pictures because they are very elegant.5/5 I love the look of the pictures. I think the front cover is extraordinary. I looked at the whole book and it is 5/5.

Maarya

To the Other Side
I'm not sure if this book was memorable or not, because I think there should've been more of it to make sense. The colours in the illustrations were great, but there could have been more in general. The storyline is good but I don't think it made much sense. I'd give this a 4.9/10.

Audrey

To the Other Side
I am not to keen on this book. I thought it was a bit odd and the drawing weren't as good as the book I read before. This book did have a strong message about refugees but I prefer different types of books. I give this book 5/10

Iona

The Bowerbird
Is this book memorable: yes, it is memorable the illustrations convey a lot. How does this book make me feel: the first section of this book is sad, and the illustrations make you feel sorry for the bowerbird. The second section is happy, and it makes you happy for him. 5/5 for the illustrations, they are brilliant, and they convey all the feelings of Bert the bowerbird. The pictures completely match the story and without the illustrations the story would not be as good as it could be. This style is almost unique, I have only seen this in a few books. The front cover is great, it doesn't tell you too much about what happens, but it allows you to speculate on what you know. The illustrations really make it come alive. I really like all the illustrations, especially the final illustration. The words are easy to read and there are not too many. The title of the book really stands out and clearly says the subject of the book. All in all, I really like this book.

cressida

The Tree and the River
Made me feel wholesome! Exceptionally good pictures. The front cover tells a lot about the book. The title is good but could be better. I had to read it twice to understand. If I had to give it a rating, I would give it 4/5 or 8/10 Really liked it, I would recommend this to someone in younger years. I will remember this book. I liked the style as well; I would give the style a 4/5 wish there was more about the river though./

i like the book because the people don't even care that their is a bear in their city because they are just stuck on there phone, but there were no backgrounds for some of the pages and there were in some other and they were in the same place.

The Tree and the River
The book is sad but heartwarming. I love the illustrations, but it was a bit scribbly. 3/5. The book is a tree through time. I think that if it had writing it would have spoiled it.The pictures really make the book come alive! The book is really memorable.5/5. Really good use of images. 5/5. It is really beautiful that a new tree comes at the end of the book

Fleur

The Bowerbird
I personally did not enjoy this book because it doesn't interest me . I think this book is for 5 years and up and I don't like it. I don't like the style of the art in it and it is quite short . Over all I don't recommend to people that like long and adventurous books. 3/10

To the Other Side
"To The Other Side" is a very meaningful and powerful story of two refugee children turning their dangerous journey into a game. It's very memorable and my friends and I enjoyed the book. I think the bright colourful masks are meant to represent some form of hope and optimism, as well as covering the refugees' fear. The illustrations make the stories come alive and bring a lot of emotions to the table. Overall, I would give it a 10 out of 10.

Rosa

To the Other Side
This book is so memorable and it makes me feel scared, frightened and shocked. This makes me feel like those emotions because I am shocked at the way this kids get treated, some have to leave their families and others have lost them during war. The pictures are so amazing and I love the way the masks are the only thing on coloured. My friends and I think that the masks represent them hiding there fear. I absolutely love the message it is so powerful. I give this book a 10/10

Katy

April's Garden
I thought the book was amazing but I do think it could have a bit more imagination and it could be longer. She is just angry and stroppy. It's very good for younger kids (2 to 3) I love that the plants grow really colourful, I loved the pictures but they were really dark and dim, a little boring. It could be extraordinarily amazing if it had lots of bright colours and a few dim colours so their eyes do not pop out, if it was longer it could be a great book. People could feel like they were in the book and use more imagination. But all together it was nice, I liked the pictures.

Freya

The Search for the Giant Arctic Jellyfish
I loved this book I would give it 9.9/10. I thought the illustrations were impeccable and the artist has really thought about the colours, blending and details like when the artist hid the jellyfish on each page. This book is very memorable and I would definitely recommend it and share it with others. I also loved the artist's use of words and the way she described things. I think the message in this book was to never give up- try, try and try again.

Iona

The Search for the Giant Arctic Jellyfish
In this book, the illustrations are impeccable! It was all so detailed and there was a great use of blending colours. I really enjoyed how the author hid the Giant Artic Jellyfish on each page for us to find. I would definitely recommend this to anyone I know and share it with others. The adjectives were also great to when she was describing the places. The message in this book is to never give up and keep reaching for your dreams. I give this book a 9.5/10.

The Midnight Panther
The midnight panther by Poonam Mistry This book is amazing and incredibly detailed. Its unique and super pretty. The wording is a bit hard to read out loud, but the font is clear. We think the message of this book is don’t hide the way look and that you need to stand out. We think this because the panther is trying hide away. He changed what he looked like he wanted to look like his friend, but people said that he was stunning the way he was. This message is so important. We adored this book it was outstanding.

Away With Words
Reading the book Away With Words, the character Gala reminded me of my experience of moving to England from China when I was three years old. I spent one year in a Kindergarten in London without knowing any English to start. It was horrible when I first got there, I shouted and cried so much. However, I soon realised that I do not need to know too much English to have fun in a Kindergarten as a three years old, but I understand that it is much harder for a teenager to ignore the language barrier. The author visualised the words people are saying in the book, they appeared in different colours and fonts to show the emotions of the speaker, which is very creative but takes a while to understand how it works.

Mido

Steady for This
I think that this book is very eye catching from the moment you set your eyes on the front cover and when you open the book. I like the style of the book that the author, (Nathanael Lessore) has written it in because it makes me, the reader, feel like I can related to it as the characters are the same age as me. It's a very good book about an upcoming MC in London, a place I am familiar with, so I like it.

Tiá

Safiyyah's War
I have only read the first chapter and so far i think that it would suit someone who enjoys war themed story’s as well as it being quite adventurous and hooking.

Maddie

Away With Words
Away with Words is about a language, friendships , and also about the family. The story is very interesting. The lines are confusing and the words are mixed. It shows Gala is very nervous about the new environment. She can only speak Spanish and Catalan, but no one can understand only her father.

Mandy

The Door of No Return
The door of no returns is written in a beautiful and poetic way, the descriptions are effective but not over done, they help to visualise the story. The book is based on traditions and culture with a sense of peace and war. A variety of emotions are displayed by Kofi and the development from him becoming a man. I got so lost in this story and struggled to put the book down!

I think some of the poems were really good and you could understand the message that they were trying to make on the other hand some were really long and end up just forgetting the message . I found the illustrations were unique but also really beautiful and some tied in with the poem

Steady for This
I’ve read up to Chapter 3 or so (page 23) and so far I’ve found it quite funny because Growls is so dumb but straightforward like he makes silly mistakes and doesn’t know many words which makes him funny in my opinion and like I think if he was just normal and wasn’t trying to impress Tanisha his interactions with her would be much better. I like the cover design it’s nice and colourful and it really does look like a book a teenage boy would read (like the author mentions in the video).

The Song Walker
The Song Walker is an incredible book about survival and the search for identity. It is very gripping, with imagery so powerful the reader can clearly see what is going on in the book in their head. I have loved every single page of this book so far, and am sure others will too!

Safiyyah's War
The story in itself is eye-catching, just by looking at the cover it gives you a misterious sort of look but also adventurous in a way. I would definitely recommend this book to someone who loves adventures and they would enjoy the plot of the story.
