The Final Year
‘The Final Year’ is a fantastic read. Being written in verse helps to make this book such an accessible read, and the superb but simplistic illustrations beautifully reinforce the characters and setting. Themes of family, friendship, emotions, grief and hope (…to name a few) make the perfect catalyst for important discussion. It is the hope that in sharing this text, readers will also be inspired to find a way to express themselves and process their emotions. It is a must-read for pupils aged 11-12.

King of Nothing
I think that this book was extremely good. At the start of the book, I didn't think that I would find it interesting, but by the end I realised that this book is amazing. It really shows how people can change no matter what they have done in the past. I would love to read more books from this author!

Play
This was a well written book by an author new to me. Overall, it exceeded the expectations I had at the start. It was a compelling read from start to finish. The ending was dark yet very understandable.

Little Bang
This book covers the interesting topic of abortion and accidental pregnancy. I love how unique each of the characters feels in their own perspective vs the other person's. This book really shows how individual people can have very different reactions and views on topics in complex situations like this. I normally don't like books set in the real world but the issues that this book explores make it a very powerful read.

The Final Year
I think this book really shows the struggle that people go through with anxiety and how to help control it. It also deals with friendship problems exceedingly realistic and allows people connect with the characters as well as showing how having a family member in hospital affects people at a young age. The books also deals with family issues and the pain and relief of getting back a friend after losing them.

The Things We Leave Behind
This book took me a while to get into but once you have got the flow of the story it becomes less confusing. I love dystopian books and this was no exception I love that it's in a setting we know and love while being so different. It shows just what could happen when the wrong people get into power. This book made me cry at some points and has the best ending I have ever read. Truly an amazing book.
