Twenty Four Seconds from Now
I really enjoyed reading this novel- it discussed many mature themes but the story was very engaging. It was refreshing to read the style in which 24 Seconds From Now was written; I loved how it was almost told backwards as you learned more about the characters and the story while it was wound backwards.

Popcorn
I think that it’s wonderful that this book has been nominated for the Carnegies because I think it is really useful that children have a book character that they can relate to. It talks about many difficult themes but in a way which makes them easy to read about and I really enjoyed the story.

Ghostlines
Although I do think this was a good novel, it seemed to be targeted at younger readers and this meant that I found it less engaging than perhaps someone who isn’t as old as me might. It was a rather sweet story, but I don’t think it was one of my favourites.

Not Going To Plan
I really enjoyed reading this book- it’s one of my favourites this year. I originally wasn’t sure if the fact it was a verse novel would affect my experience, but it actually made the book much easier to read. The characters were engaging and the story was really wonderful and heartfelt.

Twenty Four Seconds from Now
I really enjoyed this book and finished it in 24hrs. I love how the story is told in reverse and how easy it is to read. I love how it was written.

Annabelle

Twenty Four Seconds from Now
This was an enjoyable read, and the concept was interesting.

Wolf Siren
I found Wolf Siren quite good! I mean, when I first glanced at it, I thought it would show a different story. However, as Beth O'Brien has shown me, never judge a book by its cover. I loved the woods, and how I was transported into a world where wolves were your friends and trees were friendly. It was truly Amazing. One thing Beth could do though, if editing it again, could speed up the book in the middle as there is a part where it drags. But other than that I loved it, and it really spoke to me when Aeronna died. Like how DARE Wilson do that to her!

Popcorn
I’m not sure what to say about Popcorn. I did like the idea of trying to stay neat for the school photo, the one thing that it literally impossible for every school child, but…I mean, it didn’t really hook my interest. I think some people might’ve liked it, but it honestly wasn’t my taste. One thing Rob Harrell could do if he was going back through the book, is to make a bit more action, or find something at some point that livens up the book, something that the main character normally wouldn’t dare to do.

Ghostlines
Once upon a Carnegie time, I picked up this book because it sparked my interest. Then the book blew me away. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ghostlines because it totally took me to a contrasting world, like another planet of the Ayerie. The character development and the mystery about Rowan stays on your mind, and you feel the daring adventure of going to the island yourself when they venture on the kayak. Another thing I loved (seriously, I could go on!) was the interesting way it was written with the sentences being quite long - it also showed the stress she had and the way they spoke there - IT WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chronicles of a Lizard Nobody
When I first picked this book up, I thought, no way I’m going to like this. Then I flipped open the first page and it was A-W-E-S-O-M-E !!! I loved it! It had humour gushing from the pages and the bond of friendship running through it like veins of magic. Patrick Ness TOTALLY took me by surprise.

Wolf Siren
It was an enjoyable and quite an emotional read however sometimes it felt like it unnecessarily continued the chapter on a little to much.

Chronicles of a Lizard Nobody
One of the best books I have read in my life! Such a funny story. Read it while laughing the whole time. I would highly recommend this to slow readers who like short stories and readers with a great sense of humor!

Twenty Four Seconds from Now
I didn’t really enjoy this book. The author was quite creative and kept rewinding time each chapter but it made it hard for me to keep up with the timeline. I felt as if the story kept dragging on.

Andrea

Birdie
I loved Birdie! It was TOTALLY AMAZING, I loved the dialect and way it was written. I also enjoyed the loving way Birdie looked after Mr Duke. It's not a book I'd normally read, but I enjoyed it immensely.

Not Going To Plan
This is an extraordinary book. From the contrasts between Zed and Marnie to realism of it all, everything seemed to fit perfectly. I would definitely recommend this to another reader.

Wolf Siren
This was a very enjoyable book to read. It really felt like I could emphasise with Red, and the themes were uniquely interesting.

The Boy I Love
The Boy I Love is one of the best books I have ever read. Beautifully written throughout and lovely. The ending was bittersweet and heartwarming. I really enjoyed! A 10/10 read!

Annabelle

Birdie
I liked reading this book because of the way it helped me engage with birdie. I really enjoyed how it was explained for how she felt about how she was being treated and what she did to try and change perspectives about not just herself but others like the pit pony’s too.

Not Going To Plan
This book was a really good read - I enjoyed how it was laid out in short paragraphs across the page. I liked how it dealt with some difficult themes and I really enjoyed reading it as a whole.
