Birdie
Birdie is a poignant , heartfelt read about acceptance , friendship and unwavering loyalty. Set in the 1950s in Yorkshire it follows the story of a young girl who is bullied and outcasted because of her race. My favourite part of this book was when Birdie's aunt Mabel apologises and explains to Birdie why she did what she did. I liked Uncle Walter and thought he was a very nice addition. When Mr Duke recovered I wish that they had waited longer before revealing it as it wasn't much of a shock so it had a smaller impact. If she had waited longer the reader would have had a chance to actually feel sad, so that they can be happy again. Overall, I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy emotional books and books with a strong message. I would give it a 9/10 .
