A strikingly original non-fiction book that brings the everyday, unassuming crow into the limelight with great effect. It showcases many interesting facts about crows including their great memory and their adaptability to the ever-changing world that surrounds them. Similarities between humans and crows are imaginatively highlighted and we gain a newfound respect for the humble crow by the end.
Illustrations perfectly capture the essence of the written text, creating a seamless synergy between words and pictures. The depiction of the crows invites readers to look again at the bird and see beyond its dark plumage, offering an eye-opening exploration of the varied habitats and habits of the crow family. The overall impact is wild, raw and earthy. Illustrations enhance the text and visually demonstrate the information being given. An example of this is how newspaper print is used to demonstrate the intelligence of the crows. There’s a magpie-like quality in the variety and range of techniques and styles used. Innovative, playful and informative, you’ll never see a crow in the same way!

At first I didn’t think it was that interesting, but as it got on it got more and more interesting, because it started to show all the different species of birds.

I loved the book because the crow was super clever in the story. What a clever crow! It could solve everything you said to the crow. I loved the pictures because it tells everything you need to know about the crow. But when will it have baby crows? I recommend this book to children in year 1/2.

One of the best books every! Splashes of inky colours everywhere! It has lots of information that makes me want to learn more about crows and how they live in the city.. The illustrations are very detailed and I was inspired to draw a picture of the crow sitting on the dustbin for the Gallery - note the red bottle cap!. This book is very detailed, creative and informative. I loved it!

Clever Crow was an excellent book. The illustrations were really stunning and eye catching. The starting and finishing pages were my favorite pages of all the pages. A little thing I noticed , was the little red cap the crow was carrying, throughout the story. One of my favourite pages is page 24. I like this page because it shows you the movement of the crows as they slide down the snow covered roof! I give this book 7/10.

Clever crows I really like this book because it tells me what crows can do that I never knew and at the start it shows all different eggs and at the end it shows the birds hatched

This wasn’t the best of books. I don’t mind non-fiction books, but this one was a bit boring as it was about how clever crows are. I do like the pictures at the start and end of the book. I like to compare the birds from when they were eggs to when they’re hatched. If you are interested in birds then I would highly recommend this book. If not, I would maybe give it a try but it would probably be boring.

I like the illustrations, especially the one with the horse. The eggs at the start are cool

The book was very good it had many facts about crows. The illustrations were amazing the crows were very realistic but most pages were black white and grey and others were filled with colour.

Amazing images they relate to the words really well and I can tell that it took a lot of work to illustrate.

***** Best picture book ever! I've enjoyed this book until the last stroke of the brush. Gorgeous pictures, great facts that you might have never known and displayed in a way that makes it hard to put it down. Just love it!

The Clever Crow's illustrations are beautiful and the bright blue on the front page is really eye catching but then the dark and gloomy pictures throughout the book is a bit overwhelming. I also think that it has too many descriptive words for 5 year olds and in order to keep them interested in reading/learning about Crows more pictures could be used to display the facts.

The illustrations are very good, I really enjoyed them . The age rating is quite young and I think they are very dull for 5 year olds - I think they would want more colour which would mean it caught their eye and is then more interesting . It is a non-fiction book meaning it has lots of facts which are good for learning but it is a lot of written information. The front cover does have some bold colours which is good.

The representation of the crows invites readers to look closely at the bird and see beyond its dark colour, the use of the bold blue colour on the front page really is striking. Illustrations are incredibly detailed. An informative read that is educational but sometimes a little ‘wordy’ especially for younger readers.

What happens in this book is it talks about the life’s of crows. I like this book because at the start it has these eggs and at the end it shows the eggs hatch and you can spot the difference between the eggs and the crows. I think it could have more colour because it is just black and white.

The book is about the different types of crows. The thing I like the most of are the illustrations of the eggs at the start and the hatched version at the end. I would recommend this book to someone in KS2. The thing I would change are the colours because they are kind of boring like nude colours.

This book is about different crows and how they live. I loved that it showed the eggs at the start of the book and at the end it showed how they hatched so you could see the difference. There is lots of interesting information and the illustrations that go with it are fabulous although there could be more colour. It teaches us lots about crows that are interesting. I would recommend to KS2 children and older.
